Slam Jam
Founded by Luca Benini in 1989, Slam Jam is an institution established to serve the underground long before the term streetwear existed. From its headquarters in Ferrara, far removed from the European fashion establishment, Slam Jam has been able to hone its own unique and highly distinctive style, using art, music and clubbing as a guide to connect with communities around the world.
New Design for Slam Jam: user experience elevated to new standards

The Game
The need for a new design emerged not only to improve the efficiency of the site, but also to meet the brand's status requirements and renew the user experience. This change was also essential to make room for the editorial side of the brand, such as the culture section, which explores Slam Jam's connections to art and music. The redesign of the site was entrusted to NodNod while Cooder handled all front-end development.

1.
Slam Jam presents a complex catalog with a high rotation of products, including apparel, living, music, and lifestyle items. Dozens of new items are published daily, each with unique features and often reserved for specific markets or sales channels. Managing this vast inventory required special attention, as the site needed to support hundreds of collections without compromising performance and user experience.

2.
Slam Jam has high traffic, and the challenge of the new design produced by NodNod, which is original and complex, was to keep the user experience unchanged in terms of speed as well as navigation. Therefore, it was essential to develop a highly efficient and user friendly site, and to do so we worked on continuous optimizations to ensure smooth and responsive user navigation despite Slam Jam's extensive catalog.

The Challenges
Modular and customizable approach
The approach taken for Slam Jam's front end was modular and customizable, taking full advantage of Shopify 2.0's capabilities to deliver a superior user experience. In collaboration with Nod Nod, we developed nonstandard blocks with advanced designs that could be fully integrated into the various sections of the site, such as the product page (PDP), product listing page (PLP), and home page. This composable approach allowed us to create a flexible front end that was fully integrated with Shopify's CMS offering.
Autonomy and iintegration
All custom blocks, designed for specific sections of the site, can be used and integrated into other pages, allowing Slam Jam's e-commerce operators to modify the structure of the front end in complete autonomy, mixing editorial and commercial elements. The whole thing was developed entirely within Shopify's Customize, taking advantage of all its features, such as translations and localization of content by country. This move to Shopify 2.0 allowed us to free ourselves from third-party page builders, such as Shogun, reducing operational costs and improving site performance.
Adaptation and data migration
Optimization and revision of Slam Jam's information mapping involved significant adaptation to Shopify 2.0 tags and integration with Powngo for more effective management of metafields and product information. Since replatforming, development methods and best practices have evolved, so we took the redesign opportunity to update the underlying data structure, adapting it to the new context. Thanks to our product, we were able to easily migrate all information previously submitted as tags into metafields with a few simple clicks.
Advanced filtering and core functionality
With Powngo, we developed a new metafield submission feature to accommodate Shopify's advanced filtering system, creating a sophisticated filtering system for footwear sizes, fully automated and with conversion logic for different size scales. This integration kept all core functionality related to the Slam Jam world, such as omnichanneling, POS infrastructure maintenance, online sale of in-store availability, and in-store pick-up, intact.
The Results
The front end redesign and interface revamp of Slam Jam successfully achieved its goals, perfectly reflecting the client's requirements. Integration with Powngo brought significant improvements in the management of product and order information. Thanks to meticulous work and the adoption of the most advanced technologies, Slam Jam is now ready to face future challenges with a state-of-the-art eCommerce, amplifying the relationship with its community in a unique and distinctive way.
