Antonioli

In 1987 Claudio Antonioli launched his first retail project in Milan, soon becoming a point of reference for a select and experienced clientele. In January 2003 the store moved to 1 Via P. Paoli, home in the 1920s of one of Milan's first silent cinemas. In 2019 a completely new space expands the space to overlook the Naviglio Grande, with a design by studio Casper Mueller Kneer. The boutique currently boasts more than 700 square meters. The collections chosen and the interior design are a reflection of Claudio Antonioli's personal style. His philosophy is to combine research, contemporaneity and avant-garde, which is why he has always offered the most complete and important selection of designers and brands on the international fashion scene.

New Design: elevated user experience to new standards

The Game

Antonioli wanted to update its e-commerce interface with an intuitive design that would facilitate navigation and improve the user experience. In addition, it was necessary to respond to new market demands and style trends in the fashion world.

  1. 1.

To achieve this goal, the Cooder design team conducted an in-depth analysis of the current site, identifying several areas for improvement both in terms of UX/UI and in the adoption of Shopify's new features. With the analysis completed, Cooder designed the new design and oversaw front-end development, migrating to Shopify 2.0 and bringing significant improvements that enabled more efficient management and smoother navigation.

  2. 2.

Antonioli's website offers an extensive catalog, featuring a high turnover of products divided into numerous collections. To facilitate catalog browsing, the site has been structured with two separate Home Pages by gender, texts have been translated into seven different languages, and products have been grouped according to different size scales.

The Challenges

Redefining the new design

The new design was conceived with a "mobile-first" approach to optimize existing functionality and add new features. The design system was completely overhauled, involving a complete update of fonts, colors, icons, weights, and spacing. This new system aimed to create a consistent and aesthetically appealing user experience across all devices. To make the e-commerce content more dynamic, sections were designed as "puzzle" blocks, giving the customer full freedom in page construction. This approach allowed Antonioli to easily customize and reorganize the content, gaining full autonomy in creative management.

The new design also introduced a more structured mega menu, with the inclusion of images to enhance the navigation experience. The menu architecture was further improved with the addition of "pills," buttons that help filter product categories more efficiently. The product listing page (PLP) has been enhanced to include a lookbook view, allowing mobile users to view one or two products per row, while desktop users can view four to eight products per row. Finally, the boutique section has been expanded with dedicated pages that provide additional information about each of the brand's boutiques.

Enhancing front-end performance

Front-end development focused on optimizing all applications to Shopify version 2.0 to improve site performance and navigability. The Home Page was designed with custom sections that can be directly edited using Shopify's Customize, including puzzle blocks. The new mega menu was developed using metaobjects, providing a more structured and visually appealing navigation system. The search function has been fully customized and differentiated between mobile and desktop versions to ensure an optimal experience on all devices. Filters have been improved by using metafields instead of tags, increasing response times, and adding a third category level for greater filtering precision. In addition, a fully customized wishlist feature has been developed.

Powering the back-end with Powngo

Significant changes were made to product attribute mapping, moving from tags to metafields. This change improved performance and simplified data management. Size scale conversion was also moved from tags to metafields for each product variant, further improving efficiency. Product availability information has been transferred to the variant metafields, ensuring accurate and real-time stock information.

Leveraging Shopify 2.0 capabilities.

The migration to Shopify 2.0 has transformed Antonioli's user experience, enabling much faster loading of site information and dramatically reducing wait times. The checkout process has been completely optimized, becoming more intuitive and faster for customers, thus decreasing cart abandonment. In addition, the new theme architecture has given Antonioli unprecedented flexibility and control, enabling advanced customization and extremely easy site content management.
